Adrienne Williams & Winthrop “Tuck” Williams

Rev. Nathan Scarritt

The Cornerstone of Scarritt Group’s History

Since 1999, Scarritt has been dedicated to the specialized field of Investigator Meetings. Averaging approximately 300 meetings annually, these gatherings are not just a part of our business—they epitomize the essence of our company’s identity.

The driving force behind our President’s establishment of Scarritt Group is profoundly personal. Witnessing her father, Winthrop “Tuck” Williams’ journey with Parkinson’s disease and the transformative effect that participation in a clinical trial had on his quality of life, she recognized the immense value of Investigator Meetings. It became her mission to contribute to those dedicated to developing novel drugs and therapies.

Why ‘Scarritt’?
Nathan Scarritt was Adrienne Williams’ three greats grandfather and a prominent figure in the late 19th and early 20th centuries who played a significant role in supporting the woman suffrage movement in the United States. He was particularly active in Kansas, a state that became a battleground for the suffrage cause.

Scarritt was a Methodist minister known for his progressive views and commitment to social justice. He believed strongly in equal rights and advocated for various reforms, including women’s suffrage.

In Kansas, Scarritt worked closely with suffrage leaders such as Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton. He used his position within the Methodist Church to promote suffrage ideals and to organize support for the cause among his congregation and broader community.

Scarritt was involved in organizing suffrage meetings, lectures, and rallies throughout Kansas. He also contributed financially to the movement and used his influence to garner support from other influential figures.

One of Scarritt’s most notable contributions was his involvement in the campaign for a woman suffrage amendment to the Kansas state constitution. He worked tirelessly to mobilize support for the amendment, speaking at public events and rallying public opinion in its favor.

In 1912, Scarritt’s efforts paid off when Kansas became one of the first states to grant women full suffrage rights. This victory was a significant milestone in the broader suffrage movement and paved the way for further progress at the national level.
Nathan Scarritt’s dedication to the cause of women’s suffrage exemplifies the important role that allies and supporters played in advancing social change during this pivotal period in American history.

In 1875, Scarritt, along with his wife, Amelia, established the Nashville Female College in Nashville, Tennessee. The college was founded with the aim of providing higher education opportunities for women, which was a progressive initiative at the time. The college later became part of Vanderbilt University.
